SCR check types

SCR check types catalogue — list of statutory and custom check types

A check type defines a category of safeguarding check. The seeded set covers everything KCSIE requires; trusts can extend with custom check types where their own policy requires more.

Per check type:

  • Name — e.g. “DBS Enhanced (with barred list)”
  • Code — short machine identifier (auto-generated if left blank)
  • Category — one of: DBS, Identity, Qualifications, Other
  • Description — what’s required, what evidence is acceptable
  • Renew every (months) — how often it needs renewing; leave blank for once-only (at hire)
  • Statutory — flag indicating this is KCSIE-required
  • Active — disable a check type rather than deleting; preserves audit trail

Which check types are required for which person type is configured separately, on the Requirements screen (/agent/scr/requirements). There you can toggle on or off each check type for each person type: staff, governor, contractor, and volunteer. The matrix view uses this configuration to determine which cells are “required but missing” versus “not applicable”.

  • Blank (no value) — once-only, at hire (e.g. Right to work, References, Identity)
  • 12 months — annual (e.g. Professional registration)
  • 36 months — every 3 years (e.g. DBS Enhanced, as seeded — trusts may override)

The renewal period drives expiry calculations and the auto-flagging digest. Don’t lengthen periods to avoid red flags — talk to your DSL if you think a period is too aggressive.

Common additions a trust might make:

  • “Driving licence — valid + 5+ years” — for staff who drive minibuses
  • “First Aid Certificate” — for designated first aiders
  • “Mental health first aid” — for designated mental-health-first-aid leads
  • “Manual handling training” — for site staff
  • “Fire warden training” — for designated fire wardens

Statutory check types can’t be deleted. Custom ones can be deleted only if no SCR record references them. Otherwise, deactivate.
